Hainan Island China located off the south-west coast of china, Hainan Island separates the South China Sea from the Gulf of Tonkin. The tropical island of Hainan is known primarily as a beach resort and china’s most popular travel destination. With an area of 35,000km, it is the largest ocean island in china. A distinctly tropical ambiance has earned the island the nickname “Hawaii of China”. About 60% of the coastline consists of palm-fringed beaches more than 600m wide. The winter temperatures are mild (16-24C). But the summers are not excessively hot (25-29c). Water temperatures are also warm year around, Allow winter vacations with beach activities and swimming. Because rainy season fall between May and

October, the best months to visit are between November and March.





The population of Hainan Island is just over 7 million: over 1 million are ethnic minorities. The government had developed tourism intentionally. The capital city, Haikou, in the north and the city of Sanya in the south are the places where most tourists gather. Hainan Island receives over 9 million visits per year, the great majority being mainland Chinese. There is good snorkeling and scuba-diving. A charter industry has developed around deep sea fishing. Hainan Island is the last remaining centre for the construction of Chinese junks, built in the traditional manner.

Hainan island, designated a special economic zone (SEZ) in 1988, is one of the major hometowns for some 3 million Chinese living in Hong Kong , Macau, Taiwan and south Asia. After Hong Kong and Fujian provinces, Hainan is the third largest hometown for overseas Chinese. Located in the tropical region, the province is rich in mineral, plant and aquatic resources. Plentiful rainfall and comfortable living conditions in winter make Hainan an ideal vacation spot. Called the “Hawaii of the East” the island is supported by a fast growing tourism industry characterized by great beaches, tropical scenery, historic sites and minority customs.Highways are the dominant mode of transportation on the island. Its 9,300 mile highway network includes and expressway looping around the island.
